I'm not exactly a Doctor Who fan - I might have began to get into it the season before when the Doctor went to see Agatha Christie (though I have no idea why that episode would appeal ... :) ) and I was impressed with the christmas episode last year. I've watched the whole of this series, and I quite enjoyed it even though some things confused me. Amy and Rory seemed destined to be together and the new Doctor was very appealing
