Obviously we can't go out and look at the whole of what's going on and I'm not going to link to pictures of the city.  They are easily googled and I can't face seeing them again.  It's too hard.  But here are two I took.  The first is my car stuck in the liquefaction about twenty metres from the kids' school.  We've got it out now but it was stuck well.  That sinkhole it's in my husband said is above his head which is unfathomable.  I still recall the panic of having to leave it behind not knowing when or if we'd get it back and if we'd end up with no car.  The second one is my dad's new outdoor bathroom.  We're facing possibly weeks of no waste water so Dad decided to make it as comfortable as possible - we even have a tarpaulin roof.  Now, if only it would stop raining so the trek out there wasn't so hideous.  On the other hand at least if it's raining we can collect the water in pots and save our precious supplies since we're looking at weeks without water being back on properly.  Mum's area has drinking water, but 80% of the city doesn't.  My heart does go out to the rescuers tonight though.  Working through the night in rain again trying to free anyone who might still be alive.  The last one is the sleeping arrangements for me and the kids.  Hubby needs dark, but I'm not sleeping anyway and the kids need light so I hang out with them while on my computer so he sleeps in a bedroom and me and the kids have taken over my parents' second lounge.  Every time a shock rumbles through the need a cuddle and I feel better being there with them and able to do that for them.  Mr 8 has been very fragile and can't deal with shocks if he has no adult with him.

Oh, I hope you get your water back sooner rather than later. It's amazing you have internet, but not that precious resource. I can't believe you got your car out of that mess! Thank goodness you still have it.

*hugs* Hang in there. I know it won't be easy, but you all have each other. I'm so sorry for everyone in Christchurch.

Where I am (my parents' place) we have water, but the supplies are low and they need as much as they can to battle the fires etc, so we collect rain water to supplement our supply. Just been back to our house and water has been put back on over there, though we won't move back til we have power as well.

Thank you for the thoughts. We appreciate knowing people are thinking of us.
