Update with video footage

Things haven't really changed much today. We have just been at home getting on with things. Hubby headed back over to our place to do some more tidying and me and the kids stayed here. watching the TV footage of the quake with the national anthem playing over top made me cry but I had to pull it all back in because I was the only one here to look after the kids. One day when I can I'm going to go off and have a good cry by myself when I don't need to be strong.
The other thing I did today was to give in and go back on facebook despite my hatred of their privacy policies. I just couldn't think of other ways to find out about the people I hadn't heard from yet. Found most of them, but sadly also discovered that one of Taylor's teachers is the grandmother of one of the babies that died. My heart aches for them all, and I know that's unlikely to be the last connection of that sort that I'll have. The worry and tension is getting massive and people around here are beginning to show the cracks.
My mother isn't coping very well. She had literally just got up to leave her office (4 flights of stairs up at the university) for a conference speech she really didn't want to go to and had considered not going to. When she looked back in the room she saw the seat she had been sitting in covered in debris and a heavy filing cabinet. The back stairs where she was were blocked so she had to run for the others and she had to jump across a large gap between the two wings of the building. We just found out that the building has been red stickered and she is finding the knowledge that she was in a building that badly damaged very hard to cope with. Also, all her PhD materials are in that building and they may or may not be able to get an expert in there to collect them so she's worried about that too.
Anyway, that's about all I have to say today. I'm going to watch the cricket, hopefully see us beat Australia (hah, as if!) and try and take my mind off it all. Best wishes to all my flist and thanks for all the support you have been sending. It is all very much appreciated.
Edit, adding this video. I've been intending to add it on because this keeps making me cry every time they play it. It's footage set to our national anthem. Heartbreaking.
