Some pictures

A few pictures here, mostly for my own records.

I took these today.  First - the police came and cooked breakfast for all the families at school today (the kids were able to go back, despite some liquefaction on one of the fields at school).  They have apparently been going round the schools in the east and cooking up food on the barbeque and it just happened to be our turn today as we headed back to school.  Along with the coffee cart that the principal again arranged it was a very nice way to start the day.

 

 

We walked to school, so I took a few pictures on the walk home.  It's all a bit depressing to see things back to this again.  First is the place where my car got stuck last time.  All I can say is that I'm glad we didn't get this after the 5.6 and were already home by the time the 6.3 hit.  Would not have liked to have been here again:

 

Next are a couple from the streets around the school - this was all looking pretty good last week, but now is back to this state:
 

 

 

Next is the corner at the far end of my street.  Again, last week this was looking reasonably okay.  It wasn't resealed as yet, but had been graveled over and was smooth and finally quite nice to drive on.

 

 

Just around that corner and on my street the big holes start appearing.  This one is quite narrow but would be well above my waist to stand in:

 

 

Finally, we get to the end of the street I live in and all the silt, holes, cracks etc etc all just disappear.  In the distance you can see a road cone in a hole on the left side of the picture - that's in my next door neighbour's driveway and it's been there since the Feb quake and is literally the only visible damage at that end of the street.  It's like there's a magic line at that intersection that spared us the brunt of the damage in all 3 quakes.  I don't understand it but I'm happy to take it :D

Lol yes we definitely need one. The Farmy Army is starting up again this weekend (along with the student volunteer army, who are epic because it's exam time right now) with their diggers etc to get backyards cleaned up. My friend's rental has heaps more in the backyard so they need diggers again to clear it out - just so much work.

It's really just ... I don't know. Irritating more than anything else, at least where we are. I know it's extremely bad for those in the worst hit areas. We'll get by though.
